Bid farewell to foreign country and be a pillar of motherland! He returned to China with the love to motherland, it is Li Guojie, a computer expert, an academician of the CAE Member, an academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences, and a researcher of the Institute of Computer Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

As one of the earliest experts and scholars in the field of computer science in China, no one would have thought that Li Guojie would really start his research career at the age of 43.

Li Guojie was born in 1943 into a family of teachers in Shaoyang City, Hunan Province. He has been smart and eager to learn since childhood, and started school at the age of only four and a half; In 1957, Li Guojie was admitted to a provincial key high school with excellent grades. With full of ambition, he studied hard and after experiencing countless setbacks, he was admitted to the Physics Department of Peking University with outstanding grades; In 1981, at the age of 37, he studied at Purdue University in the United States under the recommendation of his advisor to pursue a doctorate, under the guidance of Professor Hua Yunsheng, an authoritative figure in the American computer industry; In early 1987, with the love and enthusiasm to motherland, Li Guojie returned to China with his family from the opposite side of ocean, and was assigned to work at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

After returning to China, the current embarrassment in the Chinese computer field deeply hurt Li Guojie's heart, and he secretly made up his mind to catch up the state of the art in computer field. When foreign computer companies develop new generation products, they often invest billions or even billions of dollars. China lacks funds and personnel, only the enthusiasm of young students to serve the country. Li Guojie hung a banner in the central lobby: "How many chances can one have in life?", expressing his and his companions' unwavering ambition to achieve their goals.

In 1993, after ten months of closed development, China's first high-performance computer, “Dawn-1”, was successfully developed, reaching the world's advanced level at that time. After the success of "Dawn", in just two years, he led a young team with an average age of less than 30 to successfully develop China's first high-performance general-purpose CPU, "Loongson-1". The general-purpose CPU field regarded as a forbidden area before by Chinese had been broken through from zero since then, ending the “no-chip” history of China.

In 2008, the "Dawn-5000" supercomputer with over 100 trillion times per second was born, in which the development is led by him, and it makes China be the second superpower after the United States to successfully develop a supercomputer with over 100 trillion times per second.

Adhering to the spirit of "scientific research shares the burden for the country, innovation benefits the people", Li Guojie hopes that this spirit can be inherited like a gene.

Now, let's learn about him through a video together!
